In recent years, with the extraordinary development of car industry, energy crisis and Pollution Problems become more and more serious. Therefore, people are eager to invite a kind of clean car which is completely green and zero—pollution to replace the traditional car that is the serious pollution of the environment. However, the present new energy car can't realize zero—pollution, such as electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle, fuel cell vehicle and hydrogen powered vehicle.;all of vehicles can pollute our environment.Under this background,a new energy engine —air powered engine, gets people attention.Based on the theory of multistage expansion, our research team design a kind of two-stage air powered engine controlled by electronic control system. This paper comes up with a good scheme which uses a production two-stage piston type air compressor as the prototype, then, modifying it to be a two-stage air-powered engine controlled by electronic system, based on summarizing the domestic and foreign research status, and our research team's researching. The main research contents are as follows:1?According to the working principle of the air powered engine and multistage expansion theory of high pressure gas, putting forward the overall design scheme of two-stage air powered engine controlled by electronic control system.2?Design the control system hardware of two-stage air powered engine, completing the production of hardware and debugging. Then, selecting the sensor and actuator that experiment needs.3?Complete the control system software designing of two-stage air-powered engine, including programming, debugging, simulation;determining the preliminary valve timing and injection pulse-width4?Building the test bench of air powered engine, then, doing some performance experiments on the test bench. In this paper, the effective power and gas consumption rate express power index and the economic index of air powered engine.Access to relevant information and research results, the valve timing and pulse width of injection influence power and economy of air powered engine. In order to compare the performance characteristics of the single-stage air powered engine and two-stage air powered engine, doing the research of effective power and gas consumption rate by changing the valve timing and pulse width of injection, then, combine with the structural characteristics of the test bench which was established.Thinking of the groups of experiment were so many, and some results of experiment were similar, the paper didn't lay out all of experimental results. The paper from the qualitative point of view, select three groups of different valve timing and pulse width to do compared experiments.Experimental results of three groups show that effective power and gas consumption rate of two-stage air powered engine are better than single-stage air powered engine's;which proves the correctness of the theory of multistage expansion. Then, the paper explores the performance of the effective power and gas consumption of two forms of air-powered engine with the injection pulse width changing, and the performance of the effective power and gas consumption of two forms of air powered engine with the inlet and outlet angle changing. The result show that two-stage air powered engine can keep a relatively low gas consumption rate in a wide range of the injection pulse width,while,single-stage air powered engine can't can't get the same result. Advance angle of outlet unchanged, the appropriate advance angle of inlet can increase the engine power and economy performance of the two types of air powered engine;advance angle of inlet unchanged, let the high frequency electromagnetic valve of first stage ahead of the appropriate opening angle, the air powered engine can get a better power and economy performance.
