With the rapid development of display technology, the projection display plays an important role in the field of display. Micro projector makes a development quickly, which with quite a lot of advantages,such as small volume?convenient carrying? large display screen. Nowadays, Micro projection display has become one of the hot areas of the display direction. Due to the highly evaluation and recognition of the market, the demand of the micro projector's performance is higher and higher. In the process of the Micro projector's development, it not only need to reduce the volume of micro projection display system furtherly, but also to improve the utilization rate of light energy, In addition, how to Improve lighting uniformity is also a problem. According to all of the problems above, the study and design to the lighting optical system of micro projection display is the key solution. In this article, the design of illumination optical system chooses the LED(Light Emitting Diode) as the lighting source, DMD(Digital Micro-Mirror Device) as a display chip, and optical fiber which can transmit the light and make the light spot uniform. Based on a large number of optical theory, three kinds of lighting light path system structure have been proposed, which contain Single tapered fiber structure, CPC(Compound Parabolic Concentrator) structure and the composite structure of several tapered fiber. Through calculation, models and simulation are carried out by the optical design software Tracepro. The main work of the paper is as follows:1. At the beginning of this work, the Micro projector's development in present and significance of the research and expounds the principle and structure of the projection display are introduced, then analyze and compare several common micro projection display technology. At last, it gives the evaluation parameters of micro projection display.2. At the starting, the optical characteristics of LED is analyzed and the theory of non-imaging optics is introduced, especially the optical extend amount in the application of optical design. In addition, make a discussion about the LED combined with DLP(Digital Light Processing) in the Micro projection display system.3. Three kinds of lighting light path system structure have been put forward in this thesis, containing single tapered fiber structure, CPC structure and the composite structure of several tapered fiber. For the several different lighting structure, building models and making simulate separately is implement with optical simulation software Tracepro. What is more, according to the result of simulation, research and exploration is carried out mainly about lighting spot shape, the uniformity of the lighting spot, divergence Angle, light energy utilization and how to simplify the system structure greatly.4. According to the simulation results, the lighting light path system with good performance is made and tested. in order to test the results of this design, the test data and the simulation results are compared.
