Nowadays, the use of scissors grab has become more and more common in this country. Compared with traditional long grab, scissors grab is more simply structured and its crawl torque wouldn’t reduce as jaw plates are closing. However, domestic manufacturers are still far away behind foreign competitors in scissors grab’s crawl performance. So it is important to propose an optimization plan for it.The sum of materials a grab can crawl each time, is an important index of its crawl performance. As the throughout capacity of harbors continue to improve, how to enhance grab’s crawl performance has become one of the hot spots to grab designers.This paper propose a feasible optimization plan for scissors grab with highlights below:(1) Derive the excavating curve equation of scissors grab, establish the functional relationship between crawl torque and design parameters;(2) Establish the optimization mathematical model of scissors grab’s crawl torque, and propose its constraint conditions according to actual requirements;(3) Use the optimization mathematical model to optimize a specific scissors grab. Simulation and analysis shows that the optimization plan can theoretically enhance the grab’s crawl performance;(4) Use ANSYS to carry out force analysis of the optimized scissors grab. Result shows that the optimized scissors grab can theoretically satisfy the safety standards with an improvement in crawl performance.
