Nowadays,the increasing demanding and complexity in road transportation in cities make the improperly designed traffic signs a threat to the safety of transportation.In this paper,combined with the human vision cognition theory,the vision cognition process of drivers during their driving was analyzed and the factors of traffic sign reading were discussed and finally a test platform was built.Four modules were concluded in the test platform based the results of analysis of vision cognition theory,which are font test,sign background and sign font color comparison test,test of color influence under the same lighting condition and ultimate information content test.The test system includes a time count module which can cover all the four modules to test the time limited process of traffic sign reading.The LabVIEW was used to realize the whole test system.A reading test focus on a district in Tianjin was performed based on the platform.The test process can be divided into traffic sign collection and drawing;test database building;testing and result analysis.At the result analysis process,correspond to the test content and the test result,the statistic graph and single variable method was used to analyze the results.The virtual test environment developed in this paper is innovative which can form a single variable test without leaving the traffic signs in real situation.The test result can be continuously developed and expanded.In developing way,a optimization solution can be reached someday with the huge amount of data,which can provide solid theoretical support for traffic sign design.
