Substation planning is an important part of the city grid planning. To overcome the shortcomings of the existing algorithms, substation planning algorithm based on the weighted Voronoi diagram was proposed and further improvements for this method have been finished:1. In this paper, the weighted Voronoi diagram substation planning algorithm has been used. Changes in the existing substation capacity, avoiding of the mountains, rivers and lakes, and how to deal with the isolated load points and isolated substations were considered. This method has good convergence and rationality and the running time of the program was greatly reduced.2. In this paper, the substation supply range was got based on the transportation model, which could guarantee that the actual maximum load rate of every substation was neither too low nor too high.3. A lot of researches on the target year substation planning have been done, but the mid-years substation planning has been ignored. This paper developed method for mid-years substation planning using the loads of the mid-years and the results of the target year, which improved the substation planning method.
