As a result of the global resource, environmental pressure increases ceaselessly, electric power to commercialize the ceaseless development of the process, the user of electricity reliability and quality requirements of the continuous upgrading, smart grid, interactive smart grid concept gradually into the public view. China's power industry, electronic technology, communication technology and the rapid development of substation automation technology, and constantly improve the level of digital substation as a smart grid, the physical basis, like bamboo shoots after a spring rain like emerge come out. International Electro technical Commission issued IEC61850 standard for digital substation technology, laid theoretical foundation. Intelligent equipment and digital communication technology development and practical, so that the construction of the digital substation based on IEC61850 standard become possible.The application of digital substation, briefly introduces the concept and structure of digital substation, in combination with a conventional transformer, intelligent terminal technology, network communication technology and IEC61850 standards at home and abroad to carry out a circumstance, explain the present stage development of digital substation construction feasibility, pointed out that as the future smart grid digital substation is the basic unit electric power technology development trend. The analysis of domestic and overseas digital substation application research development and current situation, combine Tangshan Guojiatun digital substation as an example, research design, equipment selection, project implementation and operation and maintenance and other technical problems, research protection of GOOSE network and the procedure of the operation technology and its application in engineering, optimization of digital substation construction scheme, to further enhance the application level of substation automation. Finally, a comprehensive summary of the successful experience of engineering construction, the next phase of digital substation and intelligent power grid construction are proposed, to promote the further application of digital substation technology, accelerate the process of smart grid construction.
