In bridge engineering,piles not only have to bear a larger vertical loads but also bear a greater lateral loads which made the force conditions of the piles becoming more complicated,more and more bending performance piles are used to instead of the traditional fight batter piles to withstand horizontal loads.The relationship between pile and soil is complex and its affecting factors are various,therefore, the study of piles under horizontal loads reaction traits become increasingly important.This paper bases on one bridge project case,on the basis of analyze and summarize of the similar research results at home and abroad,to start with the theoretical calculations and finite element simulation method, analyzing the piles at different horizontal loads response characteristics and obtained some valuable theoretical and awareness.The main work and research contents are as following:(1)Describes the role of the piles,the development history of the piles and some calculation Methods of the piles under horizontal loads,summarizes the research of laterally loaded piles current situation at home and abroad.(2)Describes some of the more common methods of calculation the piles under horizontal loads such as k method, c method, m method and P-Y curve method,and through MATLAB programming,obtain the bending moment and horizontal displacement of the piles under horizontal loads.(3)With the force method through make a reasonable simplification between the piles and soil to set up a mechanical model and solve it,deduced method of calculating the force traits pile under horizontal loads.(4)Using the finite element simulation software Midas to simulation analysis the piles under the horizontal loads to get the bending moment and horizontal displacement of the piles and compared with the theoretical calculation results and experimental results,researching the operating characteristics and failure mechanism of the piles under the horizontal loads.The calculation results are similar to the experimental results,which can provide a reference for the theoretical calculations of similar projects.
