The stability of slope of red sandstone is one of the biggest problems in construction process. Red sandstone has its special nature due to the weathering process. The difference in the water content of the rocks causes different strength. Once it contacts with water, it will easily lead to the disintegration and softening of the rock. When it begins to excavate the slope, the stability of the slope will be questionable. In this paper writer assumes that the location will be somewhere that has subtropical climate. Temperature,humidity and other factors may have more obvious impact on the nature of the underground red sandstone.In this paper, the construction background is the cutting slope of red sandstone in the highway from Loudi to Hengyang. Through conducting researches about the topography,formation lithology and hydrogeological condition of Hengyang highway region, combined with the special engineering properties of red sandstone in this area, the lithological character and the failure mechanism of the rock can be analyzed. Based on this analysis, by further conducting rock-disintegrating experiments, the treatment schemes and stability enhancement plan which are suitable for the cutting slope of red sandstone in Hengyang highway region can be drawn up.Through the research of this paper, some treatment measures will be provided for solving the stability problem of the cutting slope of red sandstone in Hengyang-Loudi highway region and will improve the safety in construction as well as maintenance.
