Research On Enhancing The Quality Of Product Design Based On Substance-Field Affordance Model

The existing product design is mainly based on function,while the function of the product only reflect the partial information that the transformation of some input-output state instead of the non-functional information like environmental protection,economy and aesthetics.Therefore,a new concept need to be introduced to replace function.With the problem presented,“Substance-Field Affordance” Model(SFAM)is proposed based on the theory of affordance and Substance-Field analysis.The SFAM is applied in the process of conceptual design of the product based on function design currently,meanwhile the method of enhancing the quality of the product design based on SFAM is put forward after synthesizing the related research methods and tools.In addition,the prototype system of product scheme design for the conceptual design phase is developed.Main works are presented as follows:1.The research status related to affordance Substance-Field analysis and enhancing the quality of product design are reviewed.Based on the theory of affordance and Substance-Field analysis,the method of enhancing the quality of the product design based on “Substance-Field Affordance” Model(SFAM)in product conceptual design stage is proposed.Moreover,building and solving method of the model are introduced,and the tea plucking machine is applied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the SFAM.2.The concept of quality of the product design is proposed based on affordance.The SFAM is integrated in the conceptual design of product which is designed currently based on function,in addition,“the Entity Interaction Matrix” is used to analysis the positive and negative interactions of product design scheme and the product principle solution can be optimized after maximizing positive interactions and minimizing negative interactions of product,the quality of product design accordingly can be enhanced.3.Based on the method of enhancing the quality of the product design based on SFAM,the Product Affordance Analysis and Application system for the conceptual design phase is developed.In addition,the scheme design of the tea plucking machine and the glass cleaner indicated the system is effective and feasible.
