With the advancement of the smart electrical power system, the request of intelligent power equipment become increasingly higher in the modern power grid. In the field of medium and low voltage electrical equipment, the vacuum circuit breaker is one of the most important switching devices. And its intelligent level is very important. On-line monitoring for mechanical characteristics of vacuum circuit breaker is an important part of intelligent vacuum circuit breaker. And it plays a more and more important role.In recent years, there is a lot of related research for on-line monitoring for mechanical characteristics of circuit breaker at home and abroad. A variety of communication modes are used in the monitoring system. But the vast majority of monitoring systems use wire communication as the mean of communication. This communication mode is prone to appear line damage. Especially in remote on-line monitoring, large quantities of transmission lines and high maintenance costs should be consumed. This greatly raises the cost of on-line monitoring. In addition, the cable on-line monitoring systems are inconvenient to carry and move. This brings inconvenience to staff. Now the wireless communication technology is developing rapidly, and especially the short distance wireless communication, which is becoming more and more mature and applied in many fields. It provides a technical basis for the remote and portable on-line monitoring of circuit breaker.According to current situation of research, this paper has developed a kind of portable on-line monitoring system for mechanical characteristics of vacuum circuit breaker based on wireless communication. The system includes the field monitoring part and the result display part. And the two parts use wireless communication technology to transmit data so that we can realize the portability of on-line monitoring system. In this paper, the working principle and the design ideas are introduced. And a great number of experiments are done.The system is made of data acquisition and processing module, wireless communication module and LCD (liquid crystal display) module. Data acquisition and processing module uses TMS320F2812 as core chip to collect and process signal of vacuum circuit breaker. And then it transmits data to the wireless communication transmission module by RS-232 asynchronous serial interface. Wireless communication module uses CC1101 RF transceiver as core chip, which is controlled by STM8L101 SCM (single chip microcomputer). Then the wireless communication is realized through software design. The wireless communication receiving module transmits data to LCD module by RS-232, too. LCD module is mainly composed of Atmega16 single chip computer and LCD12864. Then we can achieve the displacement of the time-displacement motion curve and the mechanical characteristic parameter of vacuum circuit breaker.Finally, the related tests to verify the feasibility of the monitoring system are introduced in this paper. Through the tests, the mechanical characteristics of vacuum circuit breaker can be reliably monitored by the system and the monitoring results is accurately displayed on handheld device. This provides a good hardware foundation for the intelligent detection, fault prediction and analysis of circuit breaker.
