The phase is the most important parameter in time and frequency. Phase information processing is widely used in the field of frequency measurement and control.The quality of phase processing directly affects the precision of the whole system. Aiming at the shortcomings of traditional phase processing method, this paper puts forward a new arbitrary frequency measurement method with high resolution and continuous phase. Based on this, a new method for measuring the phase information of periodic signals directly in a wide frequency range is proposed.Based on the deep understanding of phase change between periodic signals and the phase detection broadband frequency measuring scheme. The edge effect has been used to improve the measurement resolution of frequency.In this paper, when the frequency signal to be measured is complex, we try to deal with the discrete fuzzy region of the coincidence detection directly to achieve a high resolution.And the result is compared with the meathod based on traditional group phase relationship and the edge effect with DDS frequency conversion. Further by using the characteristics of phase detection broadband frequency measurement technology itself, the frequency measurement with continuous phase is realized.This paper links up the data information contained in two adjacent measurement with continuous counting gate and introduces another ideal reference signal to assist in processing. Finaly the recovery of the measured signal's phase information and phase accumulation comparison and control in a long time is realized.In this paper, a new method of phase processing is proposed. And sufficient verification experiments are carried out.The implementation process of software and hardware is also illustrated clearly. Based on analysis of the prototype's measurement data, the resolution of direct measurement method for complex frequency proposed in this paper can reach 10-12/s. When two periodic signals with any frequency relationship are locked in one another, system's long-term stability can reach 10-16/10,000 s.
