With the development of semiconductor technology, the brushless DC motor that with electronic commutation has been used in Electric Power Steering,EPS),and optimize the steering performance of the vehicle. While the semiconductor components may cause the controller failed because of overheat as in larger load, and then affect the stability of the controller. Therefore,it is necessary to design the thermal structure of the EPS controller to guarantee the stability of the controller. This article takes the power component MOSFET in the EPS controller as the research object and conduct the thermal design for the EPS controller combine with the typical working conditions. Then calculate the power loss the MOSFET and select the dissipation type, the heat transfer knowledge is used to analysis the heat flow of the model to choose the radiator model.Next the Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)software ICEPAK is used to simulate the temperature field of the EPS controller in typical working conditions, and take the parametric analysis for the radiator to optimize the structure of the radiator with the WORKBENCH DX module. Finally take the high temperature experiment with the optimized radiator, the experimental results indicate that: in case of the natural cooling, the optimized radiator meet the requirements of EPS controller. This article based on the thermal design for the EPS controller, integrate with the theoretical design and simulation and the experiment, complete the design target and shorten the development cycle of the EPS controller, has a certain reference value for the high density sealing electronic equipment thermal design and structure optimization.
