In order to study the panto graph insulator pollution flashover performance on the Lan-Xin railway multiple unit roof which in the high altitude and dust weather of the northwest region, and to overcome the difficulties of the bad environment and changing experimental site,this paper has used theoretical calculation and numerical simulation to develop a dust weather simulation experimental system. Design parameters are determined based primarily on Northwestern strong sandstorm area's,which Lan-Xin railway multiple unit goes thought, sandstorm characteristics and experimental requirements. The axial guide vane local loss characteristics experimental system was simulated by numerical method, the results compared to the school closed wind tunnel experimental results.It is shown that use the numerical simulation method to calculate resistance characteristics of the experimental system is useful.Studied the effect to sand diffusion by the low pressure after axial guide vane hub area.Determined the distance between the axial guide vane and feeder.To protect the dust concentration and fully diffusion in the pipe and based on the experimental system theoretical calculation,experimental system was simulated under wind speed of 110m/s which was the harshest one,the open of the axial guide vane was different.Determined the length of diffuser and fan total pressure of the experimental system. The experimental system architecture design,equipment research and selection was completed.Researched the performance of the experimental system.The results show that:1)Experimental system designed can be met the experimental need;2)Obtained the particle diffusion length and resistance characteristic curve of the experimental system under different conditions;3)When the opening of axial guide vane was 10°,the length of diffuser increased at first then decreased with wind speed increasing,the maximum length appeared when the wind speed was 80m/s.
