With the high-speed development of economy and the incessantimprovement of the people's living standard, the demand for environmentalquality is more and more rigid. In the recent years, the dust particles collectiontheory and technology have been greatly accelerated because of the progress ofthe environment science ,computer science and especially the aerosol scienceproviding foundation in theory for the dust particles collection technology, andmany new theories, approaches and facilities about dust particles collectionhave come forth. Recently, the gas cleaning technique aiming at micronparticles, especially at the dust particles easily breathed in, has become thetopic of the day in the field of dust particles collection.Firstly, the author reviews the conditions under which vortex occurs andthe momentum equation of particle phase in air-solid two phase flows, insuccession, the essential principle of dust particles collection making use ofvortex is explained in detail respectively from baffle effect, inertial collisioneffect and diffusion effect. By rational simplification in dust particlescollection process, physical model of the vortex type dust particles collectorand mathematical model of gaseous and solid phase are obtained.Together with the dramatic development of computational fluid dynamics,many of the problems related to flow can be solved by means of directnumerical simulation methods. By the use of advanced software about fluidcomputation in the paper, contrastive analyses of the performance on the dustprecipitator have been executed when it is under the conditions of differentstructural and operating parameters. In theory, the optimum design for dustprecipitator has been achieved.In order to go along an in-depth study how the dust precipitator providedwith different structural and operating parameters affects its performance indust particles collection, experimental investigation about the estimation ofturbulence flow in a single hole and the performance test of dust precipitatorhas been conducted. The results of the experimental study about the estimationof single hole turbulence flow indicate that the critical Re number of flow inthe hole is lower than that of flow in the cannulation, and the performance testof dust precipitator indicates that the dust precipitators of Model 400 andModel 400G are effective to collect the particles easily breathed in. Thecollection efficiency of the former exceeds 90%, while the latter exceeds 95%. Through the theoretical calculations and the experimental study, it can beshown that the vortex type dust particles collector to the particles easilybreathed in from the 1 to 10μm size range has the characteristic of high-levelparticle collection efficiency, low-level pressure drop and extensiveapplicability.It is an economical, practical and new-style dust precipitator.
