With the rapid development of China's national economy and the prosperity of China's transportation market, the scale of China's transportation infrastructure is growing. National highway engineering construction tasks are very heavy, in the construction of highway engineering, the amount of lime is very large, leading to the price of lime and other materials increases, increasing the cost of construction projects. Affected the sustainable development of the country, so we need to find a new alternative and conducive to the environmental protection of new materials.Carbide slag is the waste of production of PVC and other industrial products, the main ingredients are calcium hydroxide. In our country, the main treatment method of carbide slag is piling up or landfill. This treatment is not in line with the country's environmental requirements. But in line with the "highway pavement construction technical specifications" (JTJ034-2000) requirements of the carbide slag, when the strength of the mixture can be applied to the construction of highway engineering. Because carbide slag is an industrial waste, there is no production costs, if the use of only need to bear the cost of transportation, loading and unloading, labor, on-site management, direct economic benefits higher than the lime.This paper begins with the current situation of the application of carbide slag at home and abroad, and then from the perspective of technology, economy, environmental protection, the application of carbide slag is analyzed. First of all, through the simulation test proved stable calcium carbide residue and chemical properties, as long as the production method of operating properly, to ensure the quality of construction; then, by the sample observations of carbide slag under different conditions that carbide slag produced harmful metal ions and gas concentrations were below the national pollution standards, both will not pollute the environment, nor for the health of construction personnel harm.Under the premise of the carbide slag can be used safely, this paper analyzes the carbide slag stabilized soil strength formation mechanism, combined with the situation of the Nanjing area soil, water, lime, the standard compaction, without side limit, CBR, mixed with soil, freezing and thawing test, a way out of the bed 6% dose,4% dose of embankment, bottom base (electro slag, fly ash, soil=9:23:68) calcium carbide slag and fly ash stabilized soil can well meet requirements. On the basis of the above research, the field test section is built, and the test quality is equal to the same proportion of lime (lime fly ash) stabilized soil. Above technical research, fully demonstrates the feasibility of the application of carbide slag.In highway engineering construction, if can promote the use of electro slag stabilized material, the waste to treasure as secondary resources, not only solve the highway construction costs continue to rise, and effectively improve the previous carbide slag concentrate stacked buried method on the environment caused by the harm, which will generate significant economic and social benefits.
