As global problems such as environmental pollution, resource shortage is becoming more and more serious, the distributed new energy which is cleaner and more efficient also gradually increasing. In order to efficiently utilize the distributer energy, the whole world has been paying more and more attention to smart grid. One of the fundamental challenges in smart grid is the economic dispatch problem. The Economic Dispatch(ED) is to find the allocation of active power output from various available generators to minimize the total operating cost. The traditional ED algorithms are always in centralized way, but for the large amount of computing, high communication requirement, poor robustness, the distributed algorithms for ED problem are becoming a research hot spot. The exiting distributed ED algorithms many are consensus-based method, but some of them only can guarantee asymptotic convergence, but for the distributed new energy like photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation are always time-varying.So the smart grid requires the ED algorithm can calculate with high speed. Asymptotic convergence ED algorithms can't satisfy the requirement of rapid ED for micro-grid. So that, to improve the ED algorithm convergence rate Has important theoretical significance and practical value. In this paper we do many studies in finite-time distributed algorithm for ED problem, and proposed a discrete and continuous finite-time distributed algorithm for ED algorithms. In summary, the main contributions of this paper are in two-folds:(1) We discuss an economic dispatch problem in smart grid, where both the generation constraints and the demand-supply constraint are considered. Then, Combined with the gradient method and graph theory, we propose a discrete finite-time distributed algorithm to solve the economic dispatch problem. The distributed economic dispatch algorithm can get the optimal solution in finite steps.(2) We proposed a continuous finite-time fully distributed ED strategy. It is implemented on local generators and loads, which is more flexible and can meet the plug-and-play requirement of recent smart grid system, and can solve the economic dispatch problem in a finite-time way.
