Based on the gradually increment of current economic development, the condition of large base rural dwellings need to be improved, in order to comply with the appropriate income level and cultural development needs. Wanjiang located in the hot summer and cold winter climate zone, with a long summer and winter time, it has a non-negligible heating and cooling requirements. the thermal environment there needs to be conditioned by active equipment. It also has a large amount of rural houses, thus this part of the energy consumption needs to be brought to the forefront.As a typical region whose economy pillar gradually shifted from agriculture to industry, Wanjiang’s transformation of people’s lifestyle and the rapid development of society requires the same following up of rural house construction To meet habitability requirements and the comfort of physical environment, all the form, design and construction of housing need major changes.The difference between rural dwellings and urban housing is some parts of rural dwellings have a standard of more generous homestead, this will achieve a variety of types of residential form Rural housing has a comfort physical environment which relates directly to design and construction, it also associates with residents’ interaction, thus houses using the combination of passive and green technology must have a wide applicability.This paper explored suitable passive and green technologies used in rural dwellings, to study the functions to reduce energy consumption. In the first chapter, this paper discusses the background and significance of the research as well as the domestic and foreign researches regarding related fields. The second chapter makes a preliminary investigation and analysis of existing rural dwellings in Wanjiang region, learns the widely used passive technology in this area, summarizes inadequate of existing houses. The third chapter listed and summarized the applicable passive strategies in local rural houses. And the author analyzed and discussed the simulation, assessed the effect of reducing energy consumption. The fourth chapter presented the main points and methods of inhabitability analysis, selects several good cases of different dwelling forms and analyzed them with key point of inhabitability, optimized one case with suitable passive strategies. Finally, the paper generalizedand summarized the research content and achievements, put forward the problems existing in the research and discussed the further directions. The innovations of this thesis are as follow:reviews and summarizes the passive green technologies suitable for hot summer and cold winter area’s rural dwellings, proposes main points of evaluating and analyzing the livability of rural dwellings, uses energy simulation software as an experimental method to demonstrate and research effect of various green technologies in reducing energy consumption of rural dwellings.
