Nowadays, steel frame structures have been fairly widely applied to multi-story buildings and high-rise buildings. Among the structural system, the beam-to-column connections are the dominating factor, which determines the strength and the performance of the whole building structure. The conformation and the performance of the connection determines the economical indicator, the construction method, the reliability and the applicability. Compared with the vintage fully rigid connections, the semi-rigid connections, which could develop more deformation to deplete the energy in an earthquake and prevent from the brittle failure, have more advantages in rotation capacity and ductility. Semi-rigid connections have various conformations. The scholars are devoting themselves to develop new sorts of connections, which have superior mechanical performance, simpler construction methods and better cost. It is a great theological and practical significance to develop a new type of connection, which confirms above-mentioned requirements, to explore its behavior under the effect of the static or dynamic load and to optimize the conformation and the seismic design method. In this paper, we will study a new sort of beam-to-column connection: the box-column to I-beam with angle steel connection. By using FEM on a full-scale model, this paper will simulate the performance under the static load and low cyclic load;observe and summarize the distribution and the developing of the stress; discuss the failure mechanism and the failure mode; draw the moment-rotation chart and the hysteretic behavior chart; discover the rigidity, the strength and the energy dissipation;compare the mechanical performances of the connections with and without the built-in reinforcing plate; finally, using simple plastic theory to work out a formula of the ultimate moment resistance of the box-column to i-beam with angle steel connections. The result of this research indicates as following: 1)The box-column to i-beam with angle steel connection is a typical kind of semi-rigid connection which has good rigidity and strength. 2)The thickness of the angle steel and the position of the bolt are the main factor which decides the rigidity and the strength of the connection. 3)The box-beam to i-beam with angle steel connections can maintain its performance under the axial force. 4)Both the built-in horizontal reinforcing plate and the built-in vertical reinforcing plate can effectively improve the seismic behavior of the box-column to i-beam connection. 5)Based on the Simplified calculation method, it is possible to obtain a reasonable ultimate moment resistance of the connection.
