With the rapid development of smart grid, transmission of electric power communication system relying on traditional SDH technology for business has great limitations. For example, network expansion disadvantages, capacity can not meet the need of the surge in IP business,slow network configuration, complex operation, need to be upgrading and transformation. While the emergence of ASON, has effectively solved these problems and opened up a new direction for the future development of electric power communication systems.This thesis is based on the construction conditions of optical transmission networks in electric power communication system. The main research contents include the following aspects: First, it conducts a comprehensive analysis on the current situation of the East China electric power optical transmission network and the characteristics of business. It highlights the importance of Shanghai SDH core network in the whole network and points out the defects. Furthermore, the necessity of introducing ASON technology is discussed. Secondly, ASON technology is introduced in detail from several aspects, including three planes, three interfaces and three connections in ASON. Combined with the current development trend of information network, the thesis analyzes the integration network model composed of ASON and IP. After that, it describes the application scheme of ASON in Ericsson equipment, and determines the equipment selection of Shanghai SDH core network reconstruction project according to its hardware features. Thirdly, through the comparison between ASON and SDH, it analyzes the feasibility of ASON technology introduced in Shanghai SDH core network from four aspects: the level of technology, cable resources, equipment interconnection and infrastructure. We also design and implement an ASON application solution suitable for Shanghai SDH core networkthrough some theories which need to focus on in the process of ASON network planning. And the four key factors in the solution: topology,address planning, design of optical power budget, network management have been carried on the detailed description. Finally, the thesis introduces the routing, protection and restoration technique in ASON,implements the protection and restoration solution in Shanghai ASON core network. It also proves the reliability of the solution by using actual data from the optical fiber disruption experiments in the process of project implementation.The contribution of the thesis is to solve two major problems in the practical work. First, the Shanghai core network in East China electric power optical transmission network, which had single function of SDH ring network before, has been transformed into the network with functions of ASON mesh. In this way, its ability against cable line fault has been improved. Secondly, the tension in the bandwidth resources of Shanghai core network is greatly eased. It liberates the maintenance personnel from the heavy business deployment, reduces the manual intervention and improves the working efficiency. This will lay a foundation for the future expansion of the ASON function in the whole East China electric power optical transmission network and accumulates valuable experience.
