Case Study On The Masonry And The Elevation Expression Of The Exposed Brick Buildings In Xiangtan City (1920s To 1980s)

Exposed brick building is an architectural form with a long history, which carried the changes of the times, from which we can see the development of technology and culture. Exposed brick building should be developed for its content meanings and technology and art are two important aspects.This paper is trying to discuss the technology and art of the exposed brick wall buildings in Xiangtan city. The paper is composed of three parts. The first part is the introduction, which has outlined the background and significance of the research object’s definition and content, theoretical framework and research methods, and the domestic and foreign related researches were also reviewed.The second part is the main part of this paper, including the second to fourth chapter. It starts with the history of exposed brick buildings( domestic and overseas).Then, the third chapter researched Xiangtan’s existing exposed brick wall buildings,selected the representatives, and discussed the basic situation of the case buildings,provided a practical basis for the study; then, according to their elements,summarized and analyzed these exposed brick wall buildings from the masonry and the elevation expression parts. The result is that the exposed brick wall buildings exquisite traditional masonry and the pure elevation expression did have some significance, which provided a theoretical basis for the development of the exposed brick wall buildings.The last part is the prospect. Firstly, the paper analyzed the plight of the development of exposed brick wall buildings, and came out with some corresponding solutions, discussed the prospects of the development of exposed brick wall buildings, even selected some practices of exposed brick wall buildings. The result is that the exposed brick wall buildings’ unique masonry and elevation expression are achievable in the modern life, if we update the construction technology of exposed brick wall buildings and make some innovations in their elevation expression, the exposed brick wall buildings can develop better.
