With the rapid development of green building worldwide, evaluation/optimization of green building performance through simulation has become an important concern. However, various simulation tools and the lack of standardization in simulation process might lead to a kind of disorder in this industry.In order to adapt to this development of green building industry in China, standardized simulation process are in urgent need to avoid the inaccuracy of simulation results caused by subjective factors such as oversimplified modeling for simulation, non-uniform calculation methods, casual input parameters and boundary conditions, etc. This paper carried the study of standardization primarily from the aspects of daylighting simulation and outdoor wind simulation as listed below,First, a comparison of current building simulation tools are accomplished aimed at their own features and application range. Special detailed research on the daylighting simulation tools and outdoor wind simulation tools are conducted from the aspects of model set-up, calculation engine, interoperability and accuracy, etc. This study is aimed to provide selection criteria and reference of building simulation tool for user.Secondly, this paper analyzed the condition of the use of building performance simulation software in China during the recent years. Based on the survey of China's domestic cases which have attained green building identification and the questionnaire sent to relevant researchers and practitioners, some main problems in the simulation process are discussed in detail. Different software operation and simulation set-up existed in these cases or found out in the survey, which might lead to a large difference in calculation results, are listed and summarized. Then, the important indicators concluded from the above research are examined to find out to what extent they will influence the calculation results of simulation through case studies. Through multiple cases, a complete process of building performance simulation were explained with standardized simulation details which can support the reliability of the final optimization result.Standardization of building simulation tools is not only to regulate that the issuance of green building identification and this whole industry, but also provides basis for the development of simulation-aided design. Otherwise, the inaccurate simulation indicators might push the early design to the wrong direction. This paper classified and summarized the current simulation-aide method from different perspectives as optimization indicators, optimization targets, optimization algorithm, etc. In addition, this paper focused on the daylighting as the single-indicator of atrium performance to carry out deeper detailed study. The results will provide a guide to the further atrium design.This research will become a valuable reference to the standardization of daylight and wind environment simulation and related performance-based design in the development of green building.
