Today,the incidence of many chronic diseases(such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes, etc.) is rising gradually, and it has been a serious threat to human health. Although there are many reasons for these chronic diseases, a growing body of evidence suggests that it is one of the direct cause of the rapid growth of chronic diseases to the habits and modern lifestyle with not enough physical activities. Therefore, increasing physical activities has become the important means and research direction for decreasing the occurrence of chronic diseases. And, how to change the built environment to promote walking,physical activities and human health, is currently an important research direction of urban and rural planning. Including, a large number of studies have found that street connectivity has close correlation with walking trip. But, the measure method of streets connectivity has yet to be perfected for reflecting the convenience degree of traveling on foot, presently. So, in this article, the street connectivity measurement mathematical model is established, from the perspective of walking trip, and some practical application methods, steps and strategies were elaborated for the mathematical model. At the same time, the article content is applied to actual projects.In the first place, does the basic research and reviews the related research. First, Studies of the concepts of street connectivity. This article considers that street connectivity is the directness of walking paths from the starting point to a destination in the built environment. It embodies the convenience of walking trips in the built environment. Second, analysis the important features of walking trip. This paper points out that walking trip has an important positive significance for people health. And, in street connectivity concept, two biggest influence factors of walking trip is walking distance and the purpose of walk. Third, reviews the research of the correlation between street connectivity and walking trip. This paper argues that, in general case, street connectivity has an important positive significance for walking trip. Fourth, reviews the measure method of streets connectivity. The article holds that there are three measure methods of streets connectivity. One is the measure method based on two-dimensional spatial characteristics of the built environment. Two is the measure method based on pedestrian route directness. Three is the measure method of Walk Score. Fifth, does cases study of relevant practices, and points out theirs advantages of road network pattern, land use pattern and the layout of daily service facilities.Secondly, sets up the street connectivity measurement mathematical model. Analyzed the research perspectives of street connectivity measurement, this article considers that the perspectives of walking trip should be the research perspective of street connectivity measurement. Analyzed the influence factors of street connectivity, this article considers that pedestrian route directness is the core factor of street connectivity, and the two biggest influence factors of pedestrian route directness is walking distance and the purpose of walk. Hence, the article puts pedestrian route directness as the core factors to set up the street connectivity measurement mathematical model and considers comprehensively the influence of walking distance and the purpose of walk for street connectivity. After that, the article selects weight function of destination, attenuation values with distance of destination and pedestrian route directness as indexes to set up the street connectivity measurement mathematical model. Finally, get the calculation method of integrated pedestrian route directness by the street connectivity measurement mathematical model and get the methods to analyze the reason of the bad street connectivity.Thirdly, puts forward the practical application objects, methods, steps and strategies of the street connectivity measurement from the aspects of regional and local. In regional level, street connectivity measurement can be used in urban renewal and new town construction. In local level, street connectivity measurement can be used in the design of the walking exports, pedestrian passageway and the layout of important daily service facilities. At the same time, this paper also puts forward building strategies about a high level of street connectivity. At last, the article content is applied to actual projects.
