The gear and rack lifting device is an important part of the jack-up platform, and its carrying capacity is an important factor for the safety performance of the jack-up platform. It has important engineering application value for doing research on it to improve the load capacity of the gear rack. So this paper takes the gear-rack jacking system of the jack-up platform as the research object. The carrying capacity and reliability of the gear and rack is studied by combining finite element method with reliability theory.The main contents of this article are as below:Firstly, gear and rack mechanism of jack-up platform is studied, design parameters of gear and rack is determined, parametric gear and rack are designed. The 3D parametric model of gear and gear rack is established by using three dimensional modeling software Pro/E. The assembly is completed and imported to the finite element simulation software ABAQUS. Contact pair definition, boundary condition and constrain definition, mesh division and other pre-processing operations are finished in ABAQUS.Secondly, the contact analysis is made by using the finite element simulation software ABAQUS. The contact stress and bending stress at different meshing location in a meshing period was calculated. The variation of stress distribution is analyzed in a full meshing period.Thirdly, on the basis of the results of stress analysis, analysis of static strength reliability based on multiple failure modes of gear and rack are made by using stress-strength interference theory. Besides, the influence degree analysis of the main design parameters on the reliability of the gear and rack is finished.Lastly, the reliability sensitivity model of gear transmission is established and the influence of the design parameters of the gear on the reliability is studied by combining reliability theory with sensitivity analysis method. The numerical results are obtained, which provide the theoretical support for the reliability design of gears.
