With the evolution from the past production society into a newly consumption society, people's consuming patterns and demands changed, and they began to pay more attention to the environment qualities of shopping spaces than the physical goods themselves. Citizen's go out behavior carried much more complex requirements not only for purchase but also aimed to enjoy a leisure entertainment, a sightseeing journey or a social party. Therefore, Commercial Street was defined as one kind of urban public spaces where people's daily life occurred frequently. Meanwhile, the traditional design norms of Commercial Street shifted too, starting to focus on people's participatory shopping experience, commercial atmosphere and the interaction relationship between consumers and commercial spaces.Theme Commercial Street, as a new type of Commercial Street, had been welcomed by publics generally, as it may cater to the diversified demands of contemporary consumers. Case study as the German-Italian Style Street in Optical Valley of Wuhan, this paper discussed and explained the characteristics of public spaces and activities, and their bidirectional interaction relationship in Theme Commercial Street.The first study work was to conclude the distribution rules of public activities by phenomenological analysis method, and interpret its hybrid general status from three aspects of causes, manifestations and influence. Next, we used the event analysis method to understand public spaces, especially their momentary temporal and spatial features when some practical activities just happed. After analyzing the 8 kinds of pubulic activities` chosen space,which is leading to the spatial categorization analyz,so we can reveal the entire place pecularity. Finally, according to the inviting for activities by space and and the inpact of space posed by activities, we can realize the relationship of public spaces and activities, and conclude their spatial features.Then we can discuss the mutual effects of specific influenc of public spaces.There were two key points of this research, one was the characterization on public spaces and activities of Theme Commercial Street, and the other was the methodology to understand the liquidity of public spaces by analyzing its hybridity of public activities.
