The roundabout is a kind of common urban road intersection, with the advantage of avoiding the conflict between the traffic flow of the import roads, improving the safety of driving, reducing vehicle exhaust of idle stop on air pollution, saving fuel, reducing noise, etc. and the centre island has good landscape effect which can be the beautify role of the city. However, with the increase of urban traffic pressure, the roundabout has become one of the bottlenecks of urban traffic congestion. It has great significance to reform and improve the capacity of the roundabout.In this paper, the theoretical analysis, field survey, data simulation and other methods are used to study. Firstly, the traffic flow characteristics of the roundabout are analyzed, and the VISSIM simulation model is established, and the influence factors of the straight, left turn, right turn vehicle of import roads on traffic capacity of the intersection area are studied by using the simulation model; secondly, the three kinds of signal control methods of the roundabout are studied, their applicability and the effect of improving the traffic capacity of the intersection are analyzed. The secondary signal control mode is studied, and the simulation model is established. It is found that the secondary signal control mode can effectively solve the Vehicle interleaving of the intersection, but in the roundabout, the left turn vehicle queuing area is small and the improvement effect is weakened when the left turn vehicle is more. In the end, a new kind of the roundabout is proposed, and the model is built to analyze its operating characteristics of vehicle and signal control method.The research shows that double ring intersection not only reduces the impact factor of straight, left turn vehicles on the roundabout, but also increase the turn left queuing space, at the same time, the standard two phase signal control method is adopted, which can improve the capacity of the roundabout. The double ring intersection can effectively solve the traffic congestion of the roundabout in the city, it has theoretical guidance significance for the reconstruction of the roundabout.
