The safety performance of the primary and middle school buildings is directly related to the safety of the students. In China, a large number of primary and secondary schools existing building after decades of use, the building components may be damaged,and their quality can not meet the existing standard of buildings. These buildings which have many problems should have seismic qualification, take repair, reinforcement and reconstruction measures.Retrofitting technology is developing with the improvement of science and technology. Several commonly application methods of reinforcement are introduced, and the method of strengthening the shear wall with thin steel plate is also introduced in this paper. Thin steel plate shear wall strengthening method has many advantages, such as good reinforcement effect, simple construction operation, and not change of the layout and the original building functions, not additional forces to the base, and so on, which makes it become a hot spot in the field of engineering research for over ten years.A four story building model of the middle school dormitory building is designed,which is based on the seismic capacity of the building. According to the current national standard, two kinds of reinforcement schemes are designed. PKPM software is used to analyze the response spectrum and time history analysis of the structure of the traditional reinforcement scheme. Using the SAP2000 software, the static analysis and dynamic analysis of the structure of thin steel plate shear wall strengthened by using the thin steel plate shear wall is carried out. Finally, considering the duration, the degree of difficulty of the construction, the influence on the original structure of normal use and reinforcement project cost and other factors comparing two reinforcement projects, get thin steel shear reinforcement better comprehensive benefit program, and it will have a wider prospect in the application in the field of building reinforcement.
