Smart grid has become an inevitable trend in the reform of electric power system both at home and abroad. The reliability and stability of circuit breaker is especially important as the core part in power system. Because the permanent magnet actuator has the advantage that traditional operation actuator can’t reach, so it becomes one of the research objects around the world generally.Since public reports of the permanent magnet actuator specific design methods are very poor both at home and abroad, enterprises usually reform and improve through manufacturing a large number of experimental prototypes. The research object of this paper is ZW32-12 permanent magnet VCB. The type of ZW32-12 permanent magnet VCB with monostable permanent magnet actuator is studied in this paper. The specific analysis process is given. First of all, this paper introduces the structure and working principle of monostable permanent magnet actuator in detail, presenting the basic method of magnet circuit analysis. Based on the theory of Maxwell’s electromagnet field, the 2D model of permanent magnet actuator is analyzed in magnet field and the method of electromagnet force calculation is given. For the ZW32-12 circuit breaker, this paper analyzes its static and dynamic characteristics in theory and calculation, establishing the corresponding mathematical model, and giving dynamic characteristics of differential equation. Then carrying reduction of the equivalent mass and counterforce characteristics, which provides a theoretical basis for its dynamic characteristic.Secondly, this paper makes a detailed narration of the design process and methods of monostable permanent magnet actuator. Basic data such as materials of spare parts and the dimension of shape are obtained through the concrete research. In order to verify the rationality of the design of VCB,static magnet field and the transient magnet field are simulated and analyzed both in 2D and 3D entity model by using the Ansoft,a software can be used in electromagnetic simulation. The curve of the core strength force in different location and the dynamic characteristic curve of the circuit breaker as well as the curve of relationship between current or voltage and time through the parametric numerical simulation model. The prototype is manufactured according to its size. The experiment of the force, the mechanical properties and the coil current- time curve are made. It turns out that all the results meet the expect by comparing the design requirements and experiments.In the end, closing the holding power has been tested by pressure tester and mechanical properties were tested by mechanical properties tester. The scopes shows the current- time curve of the coil in this paper. The experimental results are basically consistent with theoretical and numerical simulations.What’s more, solutions against the question of Manual switching were proposed in this paper, and the prototype which was man manufactured can meet the expected design requirements.Based on theoretical calculation, simulation and experimental research of the prototype on permanent magnetic mechanism is described in detail in this paper, which verified the feasibility of the designed methods and provided good methods and ideas for the development of permanent magnet mechanism. Furthermore, the methods and ideas shorten the new product development cycles, and played a good role in promoting of rapid development of smart grid.
