With the rapid rise of the virtual reality technology and computer technology, virtual maintenance technology and application has become the focus of research in recent years, in particular, it has been widely used in the field of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Using advanced virtual maintenance means in the training of maintenance is an important research topic in the field of civil aviation maintenance.Today, large civil aircrafts will fail at any time because of their huge systems, complex equipments and structures, poor and complicated working conditions which cause serious influence to the safety of aircraft. In order to realize the reliable and safe flight, the key is to diagnose the aircraft fault timely and accurately, setting up a high-efficient and reasonable maintenance plan. With the research of aircraft fault diagnosis in the virtual reality, it can detect the fault position, judge the fault severity and reduce material resources. It is also a necessary prerequisite to achieve advanced maintenance ideology and repair means.According to the virtual reality, object-oriented programming and human-computer interaction technology, with the actual maintenance training as the research object, the Interactive diagnosis system for aircraft based on the virtual reality had been developed. The development process of the system is described in details from the virtual environment modeling, virtual instrument technology, expert systems, interactive fault diagnosis and troubleshooting simulation and so on. The corresponding solutions to the problems which are encountered during the design and implementation of the system are proposed in the paper.After analyzing the principle and implementation methods of the system, the key technologies used in the system are studied.The main achievements of the study include: a virtual diagnostic environment has been created; an human-computer interaction systems was designed; virtual instruments were created; diagnosis expert system was designed; finally the instruments-based interactive fault diagnosis system for aircraft was realized.
