Aerospace planes as a new type of flight vehicle have broad applications in civil and military aspects. Due to the broad flight speed range of the aerospace planes including the subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic flight, it is necessary to carry out analysis and evaluation of stability and controllability in conceptual design phase to ensure the feasibility of the conceptual design.To evaluate stability and controllability in the conceptual design phase of the aerospace plane, the following work in this paper is completed.a) The V-tail and single vertical tail configurations of the aerospace planes during the conceptual design are generated by Open VSP parametric modeling software. According to the parametric model, it is easy to get the modified 3D geometry model with modification for a few geometric parameters.b) According to the flying qualities specifications of aircraft, the computing method and evaluation standard of equilibrium, static stability, dynamic stability and control response characteristics of the aerospace plane are presented.c) The aerodynamic coefficients and derivatives of the aerospace plane in subsonic, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic speeds are calculated using engineering method. The output of the aerodynamic data file is processed with an interface code for the stability and controllability assessment of the aerospace plane.d) The analysis and evaluation of the stability and controllability characteristics of both the V-tail and single vertical tail configuration are completed.e) A rapid stability and controllability assessment program for the conceptual design of aerospace planes is developed using MATLAB GUI programming through the integration of parametric geometric modeling, dynamic derivative calculation method, and stability and control analysis method.In a conclusion, the method in this paper can be used in stability and controllability analysis and evaluation in the conceptual design phase of aerospace planes. The program developed in this work can be used as a tool for the rapid assessment of stability and controllability, and can effectively reduce evaluation time.
