Hydraulic and water quality simulation of the water distribution system is the necessary way to achieve the modern management, it can reflect the real-time operation of the water distribution system, and also provide data support for scientific management and optimal operation of the water distribution system. Therefore, the main content of this research is to establish and calibrate the hydraulic and water quality models of the water distribution system. The main steps and results are as follows,(1)Researched information and visited site of the test area, then set up monitoring points.Firstly, conducted the water quality regularity analysis experiments of the water distribution system. By analyzing the main indicators of water quality and related factors, systematically assessed the status of water quality within the test area water distribution network, and presented recommendations for improvement of the poor water quality pipes.Secondly, conducted the water quality simulation experiments of the water distribution system. Through the static experiments, analyzed the changes of the micro-organisms, chlorine and organic substrates in body water of the water distribution system. Through dynamic experiments, according to the hydraulic model of the water distribution system, calculated HRT between the upstream and downstream monitoring points by adjusting the hydraulic, and analyzed the changes of the micro-organisms, chlorine and organic substrates in body water of the water distribution system. Provides initial value of reference of some parameters for establishing water quality models of the water distribution system for the test area.(2)Initially established the hydraulic model of the water distribution system by using the modeling software EPANET 2.0. Then calibrated the model by using the genetic algorithm toolbox of the calibrating software MATLAB. Analyzed the observed and modeled values of node pressure of the monitoring point in the test area, it generally meets the requirements of the accuracy of the hydraulic model calibrating. Therefore, obtained the accurate hydraulic model of the water distribution system and laid a solid foundation for the water quality modeling.(3)Initially established the water quality model of the water distribution system by using the modeling software EPANET-MSX. This model considers the micro-organisms as the main indicator, residual chlorine and organic substrates as the two key indicators which affect the main indicator. And this model is based on the multicomponent reaction equation. Then calibrated the model by using the genetic algorithm toolbox of the calibrating software MATLAB. Analyzed the calibrated water quality model, it generally meets the requirements of the accuracy of the water quality model calibrating. Therefore, obtained the accurate water quality model of the water distribution system.(4)The hydraulic and water quality simulation of the water distribution system of this research are general. It can be applied to water distribution system for the test area, and simulate the hydraulic and water quality for different water distribution system by changing the basic data of the hydraulic model and the parameters' values of the water quality model as well.
