Aero-engine parts are extremely difficult to machine due to the poor machinability of the material and the complexity of the structural features, which results in the increasing of cutting tools cost, unstable machining quality and low machining efficiency. The effective evaluation of cutting tools performance and the selection of cutting tools have become a technical problem to be solved in domestic aero-engine manufacturing field. Therefore, the paper supported by the national major project(NO. 2014ZX04012014) proposed a comprehensive evaluation method for typical aero-engine parts with blisk, casing and shaft-disc as the object of study, and the experiments of machining were carried out to verify.Major research work is as follows:(1) Considering the structural features and processing characteristics of typical aero-engine parts including blisk, casing and shaft-disc, three benchmarks with typical difficult-to-machine features extracted from typical aero-engine parts were designed as well as their machining process.(2) According to the characteristics of rough and finishing cutting process, the paper established a comprehensive evaluation model for cutting tool performance based on different indicators using grey system theory and verified the model by the milling test. Meanwhile, related software was developed to make the model more convenient.(3) The grey comprehensive evaluation models were used to evaluate roughing tools and finishing tools in the milling experiments of the benchmarks. The results show that the models are convenient and effective to evaluate milling tools performance, which provide a new method for the evaluation and selection of milling tools.
