The horizontal stiffness of the isolated element is "soft",which reduces the horizontal stiffness and extends the vibration period of the isolated building. In the typhoon area with strong basic wind pressure(such as Dongshan County,Fujian Province),the isolated structure can easily enter wind sensitive areas so that the isolation layer has great horizontal displacement under strong wind.In modern cities, buildings are arranged adjacent to each other because of the short of building land and operating requirement. In other cases, one building should be divided into several parts by deformation sperations due to the stress and deformation requirement, which forms the adjacent buildings. Thus, considering the existence of isolated structures in the adjacent buildings and the small gap between adjacent buildings,wind-induced collision may happen. It may cause collision damage in structural members and non-structural components. The aim of this paper is to investigate the wind-induced collision behaviours of adjacent base-isolated buildings.Hence, the following researchs are carried on:(1)Several common numerical simulation methods of wind are introduced.Using the wavelet reconstruction method, the wind velocity history curve is generated, which is used to investigate the wind-induced collision behaviors of adjacent base-isolated buildings.(2)Applying nonlinear Hertz-damp model in the pounding point, the analytical model of adjacent base-isolated buildings of equal story height is established. The dynamical equations for the pounding are derived, and the corresponding computer programs are compiled.(3)Based on eight-story adjacent frame structures, the wind-induced pounding responses of adjacent base-isolated buildings with equal story height are investigated. The corresponding parametrical studies are conducted and influence rules are concluded. The results show that adjacent based-solated buildings collide readily under strong wind. The collision leads to great impact force, substantially enlarge the acceleration response of adjacent structures, inhibits displacement response of windward side structure, and enlarges displacement response of leeward side structure. Moreover, the period ratio of structures, the initial gap,and basic wind speed have remarkable influence on responses of pounding.(4)Applying nonlinear Hertz-damp model in the pounding point and employing the substructures in the pounding area, the analytical model of adjacent base-isolated buildings with unequal story height is established. The dynamical equations for pounding are derived, and the corresponding computer programs are compiled.(5)Based on eight-story adjacent frame structures, the inter-floor wind-induced pounding responses of adjacent base-isolated buildings with unequal story height are investigated. The corresponding parametrical studies are conducted and influence rules are concluded. The results show that the impact forces of inter-floor pounding in adjacent base-isolated buildings on main structures are smaller than those of floor pounding. But,due to increased collision points, the acceleration and displacement response of inter-floor pounding are greater than those of floor pounding. And the damages on pounding area of floor pounding are quite large. The period ratio of structures, the initial gap,and the basic wind speed have remarkable influence on responses of pounding. The influence rule is similar to the corresponding floor pounding.
