Research On Key Technology Of High Efficiency Propeller Design For Solar Powered Aircraft

Abstract/Summary:
Solar powered aircraft is a kind of aviation aircraft that uses solar radiation as propulsion energy,so there is no carbon dioxide emitted when it works.Theoretically speaking,it can almost fly forever,what’s more,it can cruise at high altitudes,and thus it has great military and civilian potential.In order to achieve the purpose of day and night uninterrupted flight,it is very necessary to improving the efficiency of aerodynamic and power plant,and high efficiency propeller design for the solar powered aircraft is an important part of it.Theoretical and practical results on the propeller and airfoil research have being obtained by domestic and foreign scholars.On this basis,the following researches are carried out in this paper:Solar airplanes,propellers of solar powered aircraft and other propellers were extensively studied;the airfoil which is suitable for the propeller of solar powered aircraft was compared and selected;with high efficiency in the whole altitude span as the target and based on a high-efficiency propeller design method,a program is worked out by using MATLAB to improve the final chord distribution and pitch angle distribution;a high-efficiency propeller of a solar powered aircraft was designed after that;according to the chord distribution and pitch angle distribution,three-dimensional airfoil coordinate data is calculated by enlarging and rotating the basic coordinates;the three-dimensional model was established by CATIA’s parametric modeling function;the result of a CFD simulation of a propeller was comparatively analysis with wind tunnel test,and conclusion confirmed the feasibility and accuracy of this CFD method;then the CFD simulation method is used to the designed propeller.The simulation result shows that the efficiency of this propeller is higher than 80% in a certain forward ratio,which proves the feasibility of the design method.This method have certain reference significance for the design of high efficiency propeller of solar aircraft and the development of solar airplane...
