Traditional settlement stems from human inhabitation in a region as a group.Inorder to obtain material subsistence for their survival,human individuals form a group,which depends on certain internal structural relationships.The formation and development of the traditional settlements inevitably grow diversified accompanied by the common development of social,economic,cultural factors and other factors.The traditional settlement pattern is the externalization result of its internal structural structure.Therefore,this physical pattern not only shows multi-layered features in space,but also contains multiple connotations.Namely,traditional settlement in its visible materialized form reflects specific behavioral pattern of human beings,social economy,cultural custom and other influencing factors.Longyan Zhuguan Village has a long history.The settlement of ancient Yue ethnic groups in this place can trace back to the period from Shang-Zhou Dynasties and Qin-Han Dynasties.The Wen clan with a large number of people living here migrated from Liancheng County in late Southern Song Dynasty.They brought Hakka Culture,which took root in Zhuguan Village,endured baptism and influence of the local culture in Longyan and eventually developed into the Hakka Culture with unique Zhuguan features.As the carrier to reflect the inheritance and transition of traditional Hakka Culture,the traditional settlement in Zhuguan Village is of great significance to the research on the society,history and culture of Hakka patriarchal clan and the interrelationship between Hakka patriarchal clan and other patriarchal clans.In addition,the traditional settlement in Zhuguan Village which lasts for several hundreds of years and contains a lot of true historical information is not only a witness of geographical development and historical evolution,but also the wisdom crystallization of people in the process of improving their production methods and life styles and modifying the spatial form of their settlement.In-depth research on this traditional settlement is of great significance to the exploration of regional survival situations and can promote reflection on conservation and development of traditional settlement.This paper is divided into seven chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the research background and object of this paper;it determines research scope and objectives,analyzes the content and significance of the research and describes the methods and theoretical framework of this research project.Chapter 2 reviews the research situation of traditional settlements at home and abroad,introduces the research on conservation and development of traditional settlements in Guangdong Province and makes a comment on the conservation and development of traditional settlement.Chapter 3 conducts a thorough research on the natural and cultural features in the traditional settlement in Zhuguan Village through analyzing natural conditions,history,cultural inheritance and socio-economic situation.Chapter 4 thoroughly analyzes the features of traditional settlement pattern in Zhuguan Village from both macro and micro perspectives and in the four aspects,including environmental elements,overall layout,street and lane space and housing cluster texture.Chapter 5 analyzes the influencing factors,traditional experience and development law in the construction of folk houses,ancestral temples,Taoist temples and covered bridges,and reveals all unique folk customs and geographical characteristics.Chapter 6 conducts research conservation and development planning based the research on traditional settlement and the spatial pattern of buildings in Zhuguan Village.Chapter 7 is the conclusion of the paper.
