Calcareous nodules are widely distributed in the Huaibei plain of Anhui Province, which are mainly distributed in silty clay and clay layers.Cohesive soil with calcareous nodules is one of the regional special soil which has unique material composition and structure in Huaibei Plain. Its unique structure that consists of fine(clay and silt)and coarse(calcareous concretions)is different from the general cohesive soil.At present, there are few researches on the engineering geological properties of calcareous soil in China and abroad. On this basis, the triaxial compression test was carried out under the condition of different water content in calcareous soil with different contents and particle sizes. The influence of the content and the particle size of calcareous concretions on the strength of calcareous soil was studied.(1)The results show that the stress-strain curve of calcareous soil is not very smooth due to the existence of calcareous nodules;the initial deformation of the stress-strain curve is large and there was no obvious linear relationship between the stress-strain curve and the increase of the contents or particle size;however, with the increase of the particle size and content of calcareous nodules, the stress-strain curve will advance into the elastic-plastic deformation stage, and the principal stress difference will increase.(2)The existence of calcareous nodules in the soil has indeed played a role in the skeleton, with the increase in particle size and content, the role of the skeleton was significantly enhanced, the macro performance of the shear strength increased.(3)In different water content, the role of the skeleton in the soil is different. When the particle size is small, there is no obvious effect on the shear strength of the soil under different water content;when the water content is higher or lower than the natural moisture content, the skeleton effect of the TB is stronger than that of the natural moisture content.
