The Research Of Dwellings Architecture Decoration In Modern Cantonese Region

Under the background of globalization,finding the junction of the traditional and modern styles is an important subject of today's architecture design.Since the middle of last century,people have transferred their attention back to the domestic architectures with an appreciation of the beauties of local architectures.As such,a main clue of the traditional architectures which comes from the folks is discovered.The domestic architectures are closely related to people's daily lives,so the decorations can well demonstrate the background and emotions of the time.This thesis takes the decorations of domestic architectures as object of study under the context of modern China at a time of rapid development of society,and in a time where the Cantonese region was deeply influenced by Western culture.Moreover,the author utilizes the methods of literature research,interdisciplinary perspectives and field survey to further analyze this subject,in order to find the junction between the traditional decorations and the modern designs of architectures.This thesis mainly discusses the background of the regional culture and the definition and forms of domestic architectures in Cantonese.It specifically studies the decoration of modern domestic architectures in Cantonese areas.Firstly,the related concepts of architecture decoration are elaborated.Then,the architectural form and decoration of Xiguan Mansion,arcades and Kaiping Watchtowers are specifically analyzed.Based on the deep understanding and knowledge of the decoration of traditional domestic architecture in Cantonese areas,the author further reflects the research value and future development of architectural decoration from the theoretical perspective.Besides,with the influence of the western architectural culture on the regional architectural culture in China,the author also considers the inheritance of the traditional architectural decorations and its integration with the modern ones.Therefore,this thesis shows that the decoration of modern domestic architectures in Cantonese areas has evolved from the imitation of the Western architectural style to a local one,and plays an important role as the junction of the traditional and modernstyles.As to the application of traditional cultural elements with regional features,formalization should be replaced with the combination of form and space,and the connection among human,time and space should be taken into consideration.
