The urban rail transit in many cities of China has entered the era of network operation for years.However,its operating organization is still limited to the independent line operation mode.It is worth exploring how to maximize the efficiency of an urban rail transit network utilizing various operation modes.The modes of express/local operation and joint operation can accommodate more passengers,cope with the temporal and spatial imbalance of passenger flow,and reduce the travelling time of passengers.Thus,they are running worldwide.This thesis studied the modes of express/local operation and joint operation of urban rail transit,focusing on the theoretical analyses of the line requirements and operating conditions for these two operation modes.It tried to establish an optimization model of express/local operation and joint operation to maximize the passenger benefits and corporation profits.It also provided a method for calculating the nonlinear optimization model.The main contents are as follows:(1)The study first concentrated on three technical matters of the express/local operation mode:the number of express train-overtaking stations,the ratio of express trains over local trains,and the station spacing for express and local trains.It set up a relationship of express train-overtaking stations with the traffic density of operating trains,a relationship between the train tracking interval and the ratio of express trains to local trains,and the average station spacing for the express/local operation.(2)There are three categories of cross-line express train running:the train may switch to other lines before entering the station,after leaving the station,or by a connecting line.The thesis then studied the conditions for the joint operation.Based on the time interval between trains,it compared the transferring time and waiting time for passengers and analyzed the effects of cross-line express train running on the operation of other trains.It found that the traffic density of cross-line express trains was closely related to that of other trains.(3)The thesis aimed at maximizing the benefits of passengers and constructed an optimization model of express/local train operation.The effectiveness of the model was tested and verified on Metro Line 5 in Chongqing.If Line 5 employs the express/local train operation planning based on the optimal computation,the travelling time of passengers can be reduced by 4.1%.(4)To minimize both the travelling cost of passengers and the operating cost of trains,the thesis constructed an optimization model of the cross-line train traffic density.The model was analyzed using Metro Line 4 and Loop Line in Chongqing as an example,and the quantitative relationship of optimization between cross-line trains and other trains obtained.The modes of express/local train operation and cross-line train running organization established in this study may help one design an optimal operation planning that fits with an urban rail transit network.
