With the rapid development of urban rail transit(URT)in China, the characteristics of expanding network, close correlation between lines, and complex distribution of passenger flow are more obvious. At the same time, many problems have appeared in the process of development, such as large passenger flow, multiple and inconvenient transfer, long trips, and uneven flow in space-time,which put forward higher requirements for the organization.Network operation based on ?interoperability? between different lines is the direction of development. Therefore,it is very urgent to study the issues of cooperative optimization for train planning by the appropriate methods in the light of the passenger demand and network condition of URT in China. It is advantageous to improve sevice level and network benefits by turning the single-line operation into the network planning,so as to construct a convenient, efficient and comfortable URT system. This paper focuses on the train planning optimization by the integration of cross-line operation,multi-routing operation, and express/local operation. The structure of this study is mainly divided into four parts, there are:(1)Analysis of characteristics for three operation modes.(2)Capacity optimization and allocation of the URT network based on multi-routing operation.(3)Train planning optimization by the integration of cross-line operation and multi-routing operation.(4)Train planning optimization of the cross-line & express trains under the condition of no-overtaking.The main studies and conclusions are as follow:(1)Analysis of characteristics of three operation modesCross-line operation,multi-routing operation, and express/local operation are systematically studied, mainly including classification of types and applicable conditions.Based on the typical cases of different operation modes, the feasibility of combining multiple operation modes for URT system in China is put forward,so as to lay a theoretical foundation for the further study of the optimization of train planning.(2)Capacity optimization and allocation of the URT network based on multi-routing operationFrom the perspective of the whole network,a model of capacity optimization and allocation of the URT network based on multi-routing operation combined with flexible train formation is proposed, which aims at minimizing the passenger transfer cost and train operation cost,.Taking the URT in Beijing as a case study, the results show that: The joint operation of multi-routing and flexible train formation is advantageous to the balance of full load rate and departure interval,so as to realize the reasonable matching between the demand and capacity.Compared with the conventional operation, the whole waiting time of transfers is reduced by 2.12% and the operating cost is reduced by 7.26%.(3)Train planning optimization by the integration of cross-line operation and multi-routing operationThe calculation method of capacity loss for operating cross-line & short-routing trains is explored.Based on the study of passenger chioce and transfer behavior,an optimization model considering both of passengers and operators is constructed. Also taking the URT network in Beijing as a case study, the results show that: cross-line operation combined with multi-routing operation is more adaptable to the change of passenger demand, and its benefit is related to several factors, such as intensity of cross-line demand, transferring conditions, train organization, etc.Compared with the conventional operation, the operating cost and passenger travel cost are reduced by 8.57% and 18.72%,respectively.(4)Train planning optimization of the cross-line & express trains under the condition of no-overtakingTrain planning optimization by the integration of cross-line operation,multi-routing operation, and express/local operation is studied.Considering no-overtaking condition is common for the URT network in China,The calculation methods of capacity loss due to no-overtaking are studied.Based on the analysis of travel time composition for different trip cases, the optimization model is established, with the stopping pattern, terminal stations, and frequency setting as the decision variables. The designed algorithm is to solve the two-objective and nonlinear mixed integer model.Taking Changping line and line 8 in Beijing URT as a case study, the results show that: compared with the conventional operation, the integrated modes can save 3.34% of passenger travel time,4.66% of operation cost,as well as 78% of transfer walking time. The proposed operation is helpful to improve the service level and operation efficiency of the middle or long lines with unbalanced distribution of passenger flow and high demands of transfers.
