The front wheel trains of diesel engine drives the accessories such as alternator, water-pump, fan and air condition compressor which are linked by multi-wedge belt and generally layout at free end of engine. These accessories layout in a limited space, and each has a different rated speed and space requirements. How to make a reasonable layout, not only meet the requirements of performance and reliability, and also the appearance. giving an attention to above requirements for diesel engine design is an important topic. This paper, with the WP9 diesel engine development project, the research about the front belt train system was carried out, to improve the of front belt train for the enterprise.This paper introduced the whole designing process of the front belt train system for WP9, from concept to layout, and also introduced the process of performance test and reliability test. This paper studied the main components of the front belt train system, such as belt tensioner and wedge belt, and also studied the working mechanisms of the front belt train system. Studied general design principle and the influence of various factors on the front belt train lifetime. And based on this designed accessories pulleys, automatic tensioner, belt, idler and accessories brackets. Doing dynamic analysis of the front belt train by SIMDRIVE programs, calculates the belt slip and tensioner pulley arm amplitude, the radial load of each accessories pulley. Through analysis of the calculation results, we make sure the belt train design meet the design requirements, and according to the result, factory could start prototype parts production. And through the diesel engine test and component overhaul after endurance test, the front belt train performance and reliability are verified. According to the result, we could release the design.The results showed that the theoretical calculation results meet well with the actual test results, also showed that the design method and the accuracy of the simulation calculation are correct. From the angle of the diesel engine, this paper analyzed the development process of diesel engine front belt train, guiding significance to the design and development.
