As an important constituent part of Chinese classical parks, Xishu garden has intercommunity with gardens in other regions of China in park type, architectural features, park art, artistic conception in park making etc. and reserves its own unique quiet and elegant as well as pretty and graceful characteristics. The publicity, containment and unique charm it has make it become another wonder in Chinese classical parks. As for research and analysis of Xishu garden, they mainly focus on description of text and image in historical context, design philosophy, design style and artistic conception in park making etc. With the communication and collision of Chinese and western culture in modern times, the development of construction theory in modern times has provided new methods and point of view in research of classical parks. By quantizing this theoretical and digitized method, this paper discusses the beauty of Xishu garden from a new angle and idea according to people's feeling of visual perception.By taking Donghu Park, Yanhua Park two Tang and Song Dynasty as the research object, quantitative research of park layout, spatial sequence, feeling of visual perception and other aspects of Xishu garden is carried out in this paper by referring to literatures and site survey and according to the theory of visual psychology in modern times. The space is divided into plane space and vertical space according to its nature and a new interpretation of Xishu garden is provided from perspective of data.Research contents mainly include:quantization of plane layout, quantitative analysis of buildings and space in Donghu Park and Yanhua Park through place deployment and control network modulus and the plane layout is interpreted according to equidistance quantization; interpretation of all landscape elements in space of parks; angle quantization of all landscape nodes in place space as well as analysis of horizontal sight and angle of view of main building landscape nodes; quantitative analysis of route, inside and outside transition relationship of space as well as research on sequence of park space. We have mainly acquired the following preliminary achievements after research:1. The network modulization of plane layout is used to analyze the class and hierarchy of buildings in plane layout and the construction of parks is mainly carried out according to the construction of major buildings and the park plays a leading role in landscape. A certain modulus is used to control the class and spatial level of all courtyards and buildings of different classes will be used in courtyards with corresponding classes, thus inheriting traditional building monomer and strict hierarchy of courtyards in our country.2. The angle of plane layout between buildings as well as the range of visibility and filed of vision between viewpoints and landscape nodes of opposite scenery viewpoints form will be measured and the landscape nodes which conform to the optimum level angle and the number of landscape nodes will be analyzed according to the theory of visual perception.3. Select the horizontal plane as the base plane of building height to measure the height of the building. Select the key landscape node in the park to carry out the calculation of the D/H value, sight distance and the value of angle of view. Understand the space and space perception created by the Xishu garden from the digital level and analyze the landscape nodes conforming to the optimal point of view of visual perception and its number.4. Conduct quantification and analysis of the park paths to obtain the longest, shortest and average path value between the nodes. The distance between the buildings in the park is generally about a hundred Chi(a unit of length), providing convenience for the tourists to switch from one scenery spot space to another. The accessibility between the landscape nodes is high with strong continuity in the space experience; on the other hand, the setting of the park path is usually indirect and there is a possibility that the scenery spot with short straight-line distance has a long path, increasing the experience of park touring.5. It can be found out from the data comparison that the arrangement of the majority of landscape nodes in the park conforms to the visual perception theory and that the inconformity of the landscape nodes is aimed at creating, highlighting and emphasizing the traditional etiquette and that the arrangement of some landscape nodes is due to the fact that the functionality is greater than the landscape property. It indicates that the sites in the Xishu garden are selected based on the investigation under the precondition of focusing on feeling, experience and comprehensive experience and that the arrangement of the majority of landscape nodes is not random but based on a certain rational analysis.6. In order to put forward the space relation of Xishu garden, it is necessary to begin with the static and dynamic aspects. The static space relation refers to the transition relation between one space and another while the dynamic space relation refers to the sequence relation of spatial alternation during the touring. For the space construction, Xishu garden basically obeys the "overall visual construction" principle, "visual tendency for center" principle and "visual tendency for harmony" principle in the Gestalt.
