In the process of arch dam design,dam abutment rock stability analysis is a crucial step.The abutment with the fractures,joints or soft interlayer may constitute a potential slip surface to slide,affect the overall stability of the arch dam,harm for people’s lives and property.Based on Weihou hydropower station carring out the research work,the main works were as follows:1.The arch dam abutment rock stability analysis methods are summarized and sorted.The factor of safety against sliding on the arch dams in domestic and overseas are compared.The elastic-plastic theory and non-linear structural analysis theory and apply for abutment stability analysis of arch dam are focused.2.The arch abutment of the dam on the abutment rock mass thrust value and direction are calculated by the arches load-sharing method.Through analysis of sliding mode of dam abutment,the potential slip surface in the factor of safety against sliding are calculated by the shear formula of the rigid body limit equilibrium method.3.Using the ABAQUS software,the mathematics model of Weihou hydropower station is built,to analyze the stress and displacement in the normal storage water and the check flood level.the non-linear contact problems of fault and materials and modules are simulated.By the strength reduction and overload safety factor method,finite element method analyze for power hydropower station arch dam abutment stability.4.The Weihou hydropower station arch dam abutment rock mass the potential slip surface on the part(dot)safety factor are analyzed by the shear safety factor method,the safety contour are drawed,the part of dam abutment stability is judged.The results show that,The stress,displacement and stability against sliding of arch dam abutment meet regulatory requirements in Weihou hydropower station.Compared with the rigid body limit equilibrium method,The strength reduction and overload safety factor method make a more intuitive judgment to the potentially most dangerous sliding surface by the strain contours of finite elements analysis,to take targeted measures,save engineering cost.
