At present,more and more large-scale water conservancy projects are using RCC gravity dams as the target of dam type,but RCC gravity dams also have the same shortcomings that it has a large dam section size and more consumption of concrete materials and the strength of material cannot be used effectively.These problems will bring adverse effect to engineering construction.Therefore,this paper which is based on the design of RCC gravity dam of a reservoir project and the joint application of ANSYS and MATLAB optimize the structure of the overflow dam section of RCC gravity dam using a first-order optimization and complex method.It is helpful to reduce the amount of material and reduce the cost of the project.The main research contents and results could be described as:(1)This paper has completed the selection of dam site,dam type,drainage structures and anti-shock type,designed the dam body accoding to the type and specification of the selected structure.(2)This paper has calculated the discharge capacity of WES weir,the water in the discharge line,pick and scouring pit depth,then the water discharge of the upstream characteristic water level,the water depth of the drain and the velocity at the end of the drain are determined,and the ratio of the distance to the depth of the crater is checked.(3)According to the formula of shear strength and the stress calculation formula,the stability safety factor,the stress between dam foundation surface and dam body are evaluated.(4)The over-flow section model of RCC gravity dam is established,the displacement and stress distribution under two kinds of static load were studied by using ANSYS.(5)According to the requirements of the normal operation of RCC gravity dam,the design variable,constraint condition and target function are determined.According to the basic principle of complex method,using MATLAB to write the complex method of main functions program,has realized the optimization of the search in the feasible region through reflection,contraction and expansion operations and found the solution by using ANSYS.(6)The first-order optimization of ANSYS and the complex method based on MATLAB were adopted,and the area of the overflow dam was the minimum target.The results show that the optimal effect of complex method is obvious,the area of over-flow section was reduced by 577.32m2 and 509.27m2 resprctively,and the area optimization rate was 16.73% and 14.76% respectively;The first-order optimization of ANSYS was suboptimal,the area of over-flow section was reduced by 472.27 m2 and 442.20 m2 respectively,and the area optimization rate was 13.7% and 12.8% respectively.Complex method is handy and generic.It has certain application value in the design of structural optimization.
