With the rapid economy growth and continued expansion of city in China,the accidents of trucks impacting bridge piers is increasing gradually,casuing miseral casualties and ecnomic loss.Wondering how to reduce accident probability,how to encase the damaged bridge piers,how to determine impacting load in design code,people should pay more attention to the study of vehicle-pier collision.This paper expounds the research status of vehicle-pier collision firstly,summaring research methods and contents on it.Second,designs scale test to stimulate real scene of accident,aiming to study the impcts of veolicity,mass and axial compression ratio on dynamic force and acceleration.FEM simulation is done to prove the reliability of FEM.Thrid,different vehicle models with variable mass and velocity is simulated to study the dynamic response of piers and damage level is assessed at the same time.Forth,address the protective effect and reasonal thickness of steel plates.The major conclusion are as follows:The FEM stimulation based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA is compatible to restore th real scene of vehicle-pier collision;There is a linear relationship between dynamic force and the velocity&mass of vehicle.The imapcting force in design specification is lower than its true value and formula considering velocity&mass is much practical;The behavior of bridge piers under light-vans collision is rigid with no serious damge.Only bumped by heavy goods vehicle is the piers damaged seriously;Outsourcing steel plate enhance the stiffness and ductility of RC piers significantly.
