Conflicts and contradictions between historic heritage protection and urban transportation development are increasingly prominent in historic urban area,which seriously restricts the development of historic urban areas.The historic urban area has lots of access roads and streets which are suitable for organizing traffic microcirculation.The research on bicycle traffic demand analysis and network planning in historic urban area are important theoretically and practically.This thesis comprehensively analyzes the urban spatial and land use characteristics of historic urban area.Characteristics of urban transportation system are analyzed in terms of road traffic,public transit,parking and cycling and walking.Based on the Gucheng District in Suzhou residents travel survey data,the individual characteristics of cyclists,such as age,education,occupation and car ownership are analyzed.Trip characteristics of cyclists in historic urban area such as travel purposes,travel distance,travel time and temporal and spatial distribution are analyzed.Bicycle traffic network planning framework in historic urban area is built in terms of bicycle transportation system planning system,network planning requirements and bicycle traffic network planning content.Bicycle traffic network planning elements,function,goals and targets are proposed.Bicycle network planning content is defined from the aspects of traffic demand analysis and network layout.The bicycle traffic total supply and demand balance model and structural balance model are constructed in historic urban area.Trip rate method is used to analyze the total traffic demand and bicycle traffic facilities supply model is constructed to estimate the bicycle road carrying capacity.Evaluation standard of checking if the demand matches traffic carrying capacity is analyzed.Combined with the bicycle trip features,bicycle traffic structural balance model groups the travellers in terms of age,purpose of travel and car ownership rate.With the analysis of trip characteristics of cyclists,trip generation model based on the travel rate method and gravity distribution model with the consideration of the generalized impedance are constructed.The logit probability model is considered as the bicycle mode split method.This thesis uses the exponential function as the form of a bicycle impedance function,and researches the bicycle traffic assignment.The organization form of bicycle space is analyzed from the aspect of the spatial layout and policy zoning.The bike path hierarchy in historic urban area is presented and network layout method for different levels of bicycle roads is studied.The standard control indicators of bicycle traffic network arc analyzed from the aspects of network density,width and road section type to protect the road rights of bicycle traffic.With the case of Suzhou Gucheng District,bicycle traffic situation and development trend are analyzed.Combined with bicycle travel demand analysis in Gucheng District,Gucheng District bicycle traffic network planning methods are constructed.
