The compound channel of Tianjin port has been navigable since 25th Dec 2014.Based on the traffic flow organization model called "North-in and South-out,Double in-out",all size ships are managed in different channels.However,when the double in-out model is applied in compound channel,there will be safety risks in main channel,like the complex crossing situation.This paper is aimed to produce a traffic flow organization model which can ensure the throughput capacity and reduce the safety risks.First of all,by the literature review,the current situation and shipping rules of Tianjin port compound channel is studied,and the safety risks of the double in-out model of this compound channel is analyzed.Secondly,according to the previous study and materials,the design principles of the traffic flow organization model of Tianjin port compound channel is produced.There are three principles:safety,maneuverability and adaption.Based on these principles,the solution methods for the safety risks of current model are illustrated.Last but not least,the safety and maneuverability of different traffic flow organization models is analyzed.To measure the adaptability,the throughput capacity of different models is calculated with the calculation model which is based on the theory of ship domain.According to the conclusion of this paper,double in-out model takes full advantage of throughput capacity of compound channel,however,there is a risk of crossing main channels occupation causing by the small sized ships,which makes the navigation more dangerous.The South-North channel model can solve problems mentioned above,however it may decrease the throughput capacity of compound channel.The auxiliary channel switch model can remit the main channel occupation causing by small-size ships and increase the throughput capacity of main channel,however the throughput capacity of auxiliary channel is decreased.According to the results,the compound channel of Tianjin port,which applies the South-North channel model and the auxiliary channel switch model,can meet the need of long-term ship in north port area,north port pool and south port area.The study result of this paper can be used by Tianjin port to improve the traffic flow organization model of compound channel.
