Liquid limit test is a conventional test item of indoor soil test.The test parameter is an important reference for classification and evaluation of fine grained soil.As the fundamental experiment of the soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering,liquid limit test should be applied within a common method and standard while indeed several different standards is in use now.So it is necessary to study the relativity between the national standards in different industries and the UK standards.This paper has referred to several researches on liquid limit test and knew about the research status at both home and abroad.And it has studied the influencing factors of soil liquid limit.By the comparing of six different standards of liquid limit test method and combining with the principle of liquid limit test,it has concluded that the differences in the parameters of liquid limit test came from different demands of the quality of cone;cone's sinking depth,length of knife and hardness of the base in different standards.This paper has introduced one-dimensional linear regression equation in order to study the relativity between the British standard of liquid limit index and national standard of 76g-10 mm liquid limit index.This paper has expounded the main content and problems for mathematical modeling and introduced basic steps of the mathematical model.Basing on the principle of least square method,it has applied MATLAB to studied the marine soil(silt,mucky soil,clay and silty clay)and terrestrial soil(clay and silty clay)respectively and got 30 one-dim linear regression models.And it has drawn the regression curve and residual analysis of the liquid limit.The outcomes of this model have indicated that this mathematical model has a high reliability.In the end,this paper introduced an real example to illustrate that the mathematic model has high fitting accuracy and precision,can satisfy the precision requirement of the liquid limit and has a wide applicability.
