The risk of serious head and neck injuries in a traffic accident has significantly reduced with vehicle safety performance improved.However,the minor neck injuries in the accident are more and more,which can lead to serious social problems.Therefore,research on neck injury in vehicle collisions is desperately needed.Experimental research provide the most authentic response,however,it provides a limited amount of information as limited by ethics.Numerical research can effectively make up for the shortcomings and help further understanding of dynamic response in the head and neck in the collision.Therefore,the establishment of model with detailed geometry and precise definition of material is of great significance for head and neck injuries.But the past neck model is too simple on muscle simulation,this text aim at developing neck muscle model with real geometry shape and mechanical property.The following studies are carried out:(1)The 3D geometrical model of the neck muscle is obtained based on the CT data of a 50 th Chinese human male and related medical literature.Then use hexahedron-beam combination element to establish human neck muscle finite element model.According to the anatomy features points from foreign biological experiment to adjust the shape and size of model,thus can embed the new muscle model into the based model space,according to the related literature define material parameter of the muscle active and passive response.Optimize and analyze on the number and arranged way of beam element in muscle model,Obtain the optimal arranged way of beam element.The validation of neck muscle volume and proportion is based on the domestic and foreign study.(2)The 15 g frontal impact sled test conducted by Ewing in 1995 is simulated by LS-DYNA.The 4g rear impact sled test conducted by Davidson in 1998 is simulated by LS-DYNA.Compare the new head and neck model with original based model in Dynamics response and analyze main reasons of produced difference.(3)Compare the new head and neck model with original based model in Dynamics response and analyze main reasons of produced difference.Compare and analyze active and passive response of neck muscle model.through analysis we can conclude that muscle active response play an important role for stabling head and neck.Analyze the viscous material parameter of the Ogden model which symbolize the passive response of muscle.Investigate the effect of material parameters on mechanical property of muscle.Research show that using hexahedron-beam combination element to simulate active and passive response of muscle is a practical method,This study preliminarily explored the FE implementation of skeletal muscle and developed a head-neck FE model with high biofidelity.The results could serve the injury studies of head and neck.
