With the significant development of domestic economy and the network construction of urban rail transit, the passenger flow volume has obviously increased during the holidays.Due to high time and space density of passenger flow in holidays,it is challenging to urban rail transit operation and management. In this paper,we deeply analyze passenger flow characteristics in holidays and propose a new propagation model of passenger flow based on the queuing theory.Taking passenger transport volume maximization and per capita delay minimization as optimization targets,a solution of the optimal holiday passenger flow control strategy is provided. In addition,we can use the strategy to provide a theoretical basis for urban rail transit passenger flow organization in holidays. The major research content is described as following:(1)This paper summarizes the current research status.Based on the analysis of the domestic and international research on urban rail transit, this paper summarizes the existing problems at the present stage: the existing research on holiday passenger flow characteristics is insufficient;the lack of efficient and accurate passenger flow propagation simulation model;and the lack of quantitative basis for passenger flow control strategy.(2)Improve the theoretical analysis of passenger flow characteristics. We define the scope of high volume passenger flow according to the generated time and impaction scope. With the deep investigation of Beijing metro passenger flow data, the passenger flow distribution regularity in time and space is analyzed. In the meantime,it can be served as a theoretical basis for further research.(3)Build a passenger flow propagation simulation model. In order to improve the great computational complexity and the drawback of inaccurate description,a new model is built based on the queuing theory. We establish different simulation models for different stages, such as entering or exiting model, boarding or alighting model and running in section model. The process of the interaction between the passenger flow, train flow and rail network is depicted in detail by using these models. With the advantages of accuracy and efficiency, this new model can meet the requirement of real-time monitoring and simulation.(4)Optimization of passenger flow control strategy.Given the consideration of both the high density of time and space,we take fairness, efficiency, safety, etc.into account and present a flow controlling model of multi-station coordination according to the passenger flow transport volume maximization and per capita delay minimization. The model overcomes the shortcoming of poor accuracy which exists in a wide range of existing flow controlling model of multi-station coordination.(5)Case study.Beijing Metro Line 8 was taken as an example to develop a passenger flow propagation simulation model.By comparing simulation results and the actual passenger flow distribution data,we verified the reliability of the model.Based on the simulation model, the flow controlling optimization model of multi-station coordination is established, which could provide quantitative basis for the passenger flow controlling during holidays.
