The Research On Design And Practice Of New Rammed Earth Buildings In Cold Area

As one of the oldest architectural types which is still widely used in nowadays,earth building is described by UNESCO as a good example of ecological architecture.New rammed earth building is a new architectural type that integrates modern technology,techniques and methods basing on the concept that undisturbed soil can return to nature.This paper explored the construction methods and technical limitations of new rammed earth building,studied the differences between it and earth-sheltered building and adobe building in the northwest region and then put forward full-life-cycle green building principles and methods which suit people living in cold areas from the construction to demolition,achieving the harmony and unity of the three basic elements in Chinese traditional philosophy—man,nature and environment.Firstly,the paper reviewed the origin,purpose and significance of this research as well as the theoretical research and practice development of domestic and foreign earth building construction,and expounded the research scope,contents and methods for this paper.Secondly,the paper introduced such concepts as critical technical suitability theory and discussed the basic viewpoint of each concept,looked at the elements and technical features of famous new rammed earth buildings in China and abroad,analyzed the reasons of the design practice needs in improving the human living environment in cold areas and then put forward its solution and methods,which finally led to the idea of rammed earth building with a new structure system.Moreover,based on the theories of technical suitability and economic suitability,the fourth part analyzed the planning and plane layout,main structure nodes and thermal performance of newrammed earth buildings in cold areas by looking at the architectural design and construction of Chaganhaote Reception Center in Baicheng City,Jilin Province,and summed up some experience and methods that could be used for reference.In the end,this paper suggested that the construction process of new rammed earth building should pay more attention to public participation,meet the requirements of different users and focus on update strategies that retain local culture and cultural heritage and discussed the relationship between natural landscape and artificial landscape as well as the relationship between local cultural pattern and buildings and the environment.
