The construction of 500 kV Western Inner Mongolian power grid developed rapidly,andwith a large number of power plants put into operation,the length of 500 kV transmission line of Western Inner Mongolian power grid is 5424 kilometers,the East-West span of which is about 1300 kilometers and average altitude 1000 meters.In the distribution of the terrain,plain accounted for 43.56%,mountains and hills 40.36%,the desert 12%,and the river network 4%.The line temperature difference ofthe annual operating environment is up to 50 degrees C.Across the 8 Union Cities,Inner Mongolia Power Company,Inner Mongolia EHV power transmission operation and maintenance management commitment in Western Inner Mongolian power grid undertake,operate and maintain all the 500 kV transmission line of Western Inner Mongolian power grid.The main features ofthe 500 kV line is as follows: the terrain and weather conditions along the line are varied and complex,and many lines have a relatively high altitude.Besides,there are harsh climatic conditions,and some sections are still bare with no road.The closing time due to snow in winter is relatively long and line patrol officers as well as vehicles can not enter.The traditional inspection methods adopts the method of manual inspection,but there exist difficult conditions,poor working environment,and at the same time a great threat to the personal safety and inspection of the inspectors.Besides,the effect is not good,and many hidden line faults can not be discovered because of inspectors' negligence or exhaustion.This paper mainly studies the application of helicopter patrol inspection.First from the characteristics of helicopters themselves,combined with routine inspections on transmission line,and then be familiar with the helicopter operations and air traffic control system to study the feasibility of helicopter application in transmission line operation and maintenance basically.Then by referencing some equipment to meet the basic needs of airborne work,the author studied the application of airborne optoelectronic pod gyro stabilization system,and thus develop the high-definition video capture function,and detect defects in transmission line by infrared thermal imaging techniques.Later,through the analysis of the collection of HD video data,add missing defects.After solving the technical problems,according to the special operating environment of Western Inner Mongolian power grid,the author is to make efficient inspection program by using“five points” inspection method and exchange inspection method of helicopter to ensure the safe and stable operation of the 500 kV transmission line of Western Inner Mongolian Power Grid to the most degree.
